Hola Gran Canaria ⛱

Third largest of the 8 Canary Islands after Tenerife and Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria is indeed the one which gave the archipelago its name.

With an average of 25 degrees all around the year, they are called the island of the eternal spring and coming from a freezing London I couldn’t be happier to feel it on our skins.

We picked (for the very first time) an Airbnb in San Bartolomè de Tirajana, in the south coast of the island.

I must confess that, although it is the cheapest option, it didn’t feel very comfortable to share common areas with the landlord and I wouldn’t probably book it again.

This residential location is crowded but perfect for bars and restaurants and, most of all, it is just a short walk to the famous Playa des Ingles.

There are many big supermarket in the area, extremely beneficial to buy drinks and sandwiches before heading to the beach.

For the night, you can enjoy nice typical meals at a fixed price at one of the many restaurants on the seaside.

We found even tapas and drinks for 10 Euros!

If you can do just three things, these are my top picks:

  1. Maspalomas dunes : my favorite spot of the island!Basically a miniature desert surrounded by the sea.
  2. Meloneras : enjoy amazing sunsets drinking cocktails in one of the chic lounge bars.
  3. Playa de Los Amadores : glorious Blue Flag man made beach.

Rely on public transports for long distance and popular places. Buses usually run once an hour and they can be so overcrowded to skip stops…leaving you waiting for one hour more! 😦

  1. Thank You for this post. I love Las Palmas. It offers for a visitor much to explore. I made four posts about it and here is the fourth one:
